Former Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán denied instructing authorities to
seize two armored vehicles carrying cash and gold belonging to Ukraine, valued
at about $82m, and said the accusations were politically motivated. In March
seven Ukrainians responsible for transporting the assets were briefly detained
by Hungarian authorities on suspicion of money laundering. The case has
heightened tensions between Hungary and Ukraine. Orbán, a Russia-aligned leader,
left office in April after losing an election that ended his 16-year
premiership.
