Yemen’s foreign minister Afraa Zuba said Wednesday the government has asked the
United States for intelligence and training support for government forces and
the coast guard and for continued political, economic and humanitarian
assistance, without explicitly requesting US military aid. She urged the US to
expand sanctions on the Houthi movement and to strengthen sanctions coordination
with the EU. Zuba said the government is not seeking negotiations with the
Houthis now, prioritizing military action to end Houthi control; she said such
operations are decided, commanded and executed by Yemen, with coalition partners
providing air support. On US contacts with the Houthis referenced by former
President Trump, Zuba said the outreach was intended to warn the Houthis against
further attacks but gave no timing or communication details.
