Researchers at the University of Science and Technology of China and the Jinan Quantum Technology Research Institute reported a high‑efficiency, low‑noise quantum frequency conversion from 393 nm (UV) to 1,550 nm (telecom) that enables interfacing trapped‑ion memories with optical fiber. The team led by Pan Jianwei, Zhang Qiang and Zheng Mingyang said the result sets an international record for conversion efficiency and noise in this wavelength range and provides key technology for remote interconnection of trapped‑ion nodes in scalable quantum networks. The findings are published in Physical Review Letters.

DeepSeek's web and app services began failing at 08:11 on Oct. 15; the company's service-status page reported a partial web/API outage. As of 11:30 a.m. the service had not recovered, leaving the incident running for over three hours. Industry analysts say the collapse may be linked to compute-supply issues. DeepSeek's status logs show at least 10 major outages this year, including service-unavailable incidents and frequent performance-degradation reports.
