The IMF said Saudi Arabia's fiscal buffers and spare oil-export infrastructure
are helping the kingdom absorb shocks from the Iran war. Despite an escalation
this month, including deadly Houthi strikes on major Saudi airports, IMF Middle
East and Central Asia director Jihad Azour said at the IMF annual meetings in
Bangkok that Saudi is better positioned than other Gulf states to withstand the
disruption. He cited Saudi reserves and infrastructure investment that enable
rapid re-routing of oil exports.
