Japan stocks ended a six-day losing streak on Friday as AI-related names
rebounded, lifting the Nikkei 225 1.39% to 65,324.29; the index still declined
5.37% on the week. TOPIX rose 1.67% to 4,066, but was down 0.95% for the week.
Daiwa Securities senior strategist Daisuke Hashizume said the move reflected
buybacks after Thursday’s near-5% plunge rather than fresh positive catalysts.
Market gains were capped by caution ahead of corporate earnings and the U.S.
midterm elections, with investors watching whether President Trump’s proposals —
including $5,000 payments to adults and increased military spending — will alter
policy or market expectations.
