China's disarmament ambassador Li Chijiang told the UN General Assembly First Committee on the 16th that global security has become more complex and severe, multilateral nuclear arms-control confrontation has intensified, and concern about a nuclear arms race and nuclear war has risen. He said Cold War thinking, double standards and unilateralism are the main drivers undermining strategic stability, non-proliferation and global nuclear governance. Li urged states to adopt a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable approach to security, reiterated that nuclear weapons must not be used and nuclear war must not be fought, and called on nuclear-armed states to abandon policies of winning a nuclear war and first-use, and to negotiate a no-first-use treaty and an international legal instrument on nuclear security assurances.

Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark said an internal company economic model projects AI could raise US economic output to about $44 trillion by 2030, from just over $30 trillion today. Speaking at the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, Clark said the estimate "sounds outlandish" but argued rapid AI-driven acceleration in scientific discovery could produce such growth. He urged international cooperation to create "special and strict rules" for the technology.
