Barclays will cut about 5,000 roles—roughly 5% of staff—as part of structural cost reductions to free resources for investment, the bank said in a presentation on Thursday. The bank said artificial intelligence is already boosting efficiency and is a key driver of the restructuring, which includes organisational simplification. Barclays said it has about 93,000 employees globally as of end-2025.
