China's National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center and the National
Engineering Laboratory for Computer Virus Prevention and Control, via the
national computer virus collaborative analysis platform
(https://virus.cverc.org.cn), have recently detected multiple domestic incidents
of "Weaxor" ransomware. The malware encrypts users' important files, renames
affected files with a ".weax" suffix, and leaves ransom notes on infected hosts
demanding victims contact the attackers and pay a ransom.
