Nikkei reports the Bank of Japan plans to hold the policy rate at 1.25% at its
Oct. 29-30 meeting, pausing after September’s increase to assess its effects.
The BOJ is expected to say core inflation excluding temporary factors has
effectively reached the 2% target, but will focus on preventing inflation from
rising further above 2% and keeping it stable while seeking an appropriate
timing for any additional hikes. A majority of the nine policy board members are
expected to vote to keep the rate unchanged.
