A team led by academician Liu Zhongmin at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences reported a new metal- and ligand-free molecular-sieve-catalyzed olefin carbonylation reaction published in Nature on Oct 21. Carbonylation is a foundational industrial reaction used to produce acetic acid, fragrances and pharmaceutical intermediates.

On Oct. 20 the National Development and Reform Commission published a first batch of 136 flagship major application scenario projects. State Grid led or participated in more than 10 of the selected projects, which target engineering priorities tied to frontier industries and major technology needs and focus on high‑renewable integration, power‑compute coordination, and coordinated green industrial development as templates for the energy system's green, low‑carbon transition.
