Advance voting for New Zealand's 2026 general election opened on Oct. 26 and
will run through Nov. 7, the Electoral Commission said. Under the mixed-member
proportional system each voter has two votes: one for a party and one for a
constituency MP. Nationwide election day is Nov. 7; the commission will operate
more than 2,300 polling places, including community centres, schools, shopping
centres, tertiary institutions and Māori community sites. The election outcome
will determine Parliament's party composition and government formation.
