Early parallel counts from multiple Bulgarian pollsters on Oct. 26 show Yotova
and former caretaker prime minister Gurov finished first and second in the
presidential vote; they and their vice-presidential running mates will contest a
Nov. 1 runoff. Under the constitution the president is directly elected to a
five-year term, eligible for one re‑election; a candidate must secure an
absolute majority and turnout must exceed 50% or a runoff is required.
