Egypt's parliament on the 26th approved providing military support to Saudi
Arabia to help defend against attacks by Iran-aligned Houthi forces in Yemen.
The vote, held after three closed-door sessions and two delays, completes the
constitutional approval required for overseas troop deployments. It remains
unclear what form the support will take; a deployment of Egyptian ground forces
would be the country's first overseas operation since the 1991 Gulf War and
could, if it occurs, risk broadening military confrontation across the Middle
East.
