Iran’s deputy secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Bagheri, said Iran geographically links Pakistan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia and therefore plays a central role in connecting those separated regions. He said Iran has been the only country to stand against what he described as the Zionist regime’s brutality and US aggression and to secure success. Bagheri added recent events have directly disproved the view that security can be guaranteed by engaging the Zionist regime, and that regional states are now seriously seeking to build lasting security and have reached a consensus that they “must seek lasting security from within the region.”

Nikkei reported on 27 that Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is preparing to repurchase part of the 590,000 tonnes of government reserve rice scheduled for release in 2025. MAFF carried out a 210,000-tonne buyback in September and is expected to add roughly 100,000 tonnes this time. The government views an appropriate reserve at about 1 million tonnes; falling reserves have raised food-security concerns.
