Guangzhou has repossessed multiple parcels of idle land, the city and Guangdong
province disclosures show. A Huangpu district Port Phase‑III parcel originally
acquired by Guangzhou Port Group as commercial land was reclaimed this year by
the local government for 1.24 bln yuan and is to be rezoned to mixed
commercial‑residential and put up for sale shortly. Sunac’s Guangzhou
cultural‑tourism project also had an idle plot reclaimed with land compensation
of 272 mln yuan. Guangdong’s 2026 special‑bond disclosures show Guangzhou plans
additional repossessions this year; besides the two plots above, three further
commercial or mixed‑use sites involve Gemdale, China Tourism Group and Baoxin
Real Estate, with about 3.87 bln yuan of special bonds tied to these five
parcels. Gemdale said the matters are proceeding normally; a China Tourism
Investment contact gave no details and said the company will cooperate with
Huadu district government on commercial planning upgrades.
