China's anti-narcotics authorities opened an investigation in October 2025 into
a large transnational network smuggling liquid methamphetamine into Indonesia; a
year-long probe found repeated shipments. In September 2026 China's National
Narcotics Office notified Indonesia's National Narcotics Agency and the parties
agreed to cooperate; the Royal Malaysia Police's Narcotics Division assisted. On
Oct. 21 Indonesia's National Narcotics Agency dismantled a major
purification/production site in Banda Aceh, seized about 1.2 tonnes of liquid
methamphetamine and arrested 11 suspects. Chinese authorities said the case is
the largest recent cross-border narcotics bust China has carried out with other
countries by number of arrests and completeness of the interdiction chain.
