On Oct. 31 at the opening plenary of the 2026 World Top Scientists Forum, CATL
chairman and founder Zeng Yuqun said existing battery energy density is "not yet
sufficient" to support wider applications and that the industry must leverage AI
and global scientific expertise to accelerate source innovation in
electrochemistry. He said battery systems span femtosecond-to-decade timescales
and atomic-scale dimensions. CATL is deploying large language models and an
in-house AI-native research platform linking wet and dry labs and holds over 1
trillion test records, but Zeng said the firm is still "not doing enough" and
seeks more support from the electrochemistry research community.
