According to Israel Public Broadcasting (KAN), opposition leader Eisenkot told a
closed-door meeting he will not join a cabinet led by Netanyahu, and said he
would refuse even if U.S. President Trump asked him to. He added he would meet
Trump out of respect for the president but would stress government formation is
Israel’s internal matter and resist external interference. National Unity and
Yisrael Beiteinu (led by Liberman) have agreed to recommend Eisenkot to form the
next cabinet; if the two Arab party alliances also back him as expected,
Eisenkot would be poised to form a government. Liberman has ruled out joining
any cabinet that includes or depends on Arab parties, a major obstacle for the
opposition. Eisenkot will hold a coordination meeting on Tuesday.
