Democrats have won six of seven competitive swing states — Texas, Kansas, Ohio,
Iowa, Maine and Michigan — in the final phase of the midterms. Texas has not
elected a Democratic federal senator since 1988 and Kansas since 1932; both
results are major upsets. Ohio, a state previously represented in the Senate by
Vance, also failed to reverse Republican losses. Democrats additionally flipped
North Carolina and South Carolina, totaling seven pickups, and are projected to
hold 54 Senate seats. Alaska remains undecided amid a same-name candidate
dispute.
