McDonald's said US comparable sales fell 0.2% in Q3, a smaller decline than
analysts' consensus, as a higher average check offset weaker traffic. The
company warned in late September Q3 results might "slightly decline", citing
earlier sub-$3 value menu promotions that failed to attract expected customers.
The US market accounts for about 38% of total revenue. McDonald's is replacing
the underperforming sub-$3 menu with new discount strategies, cutting short-term
promotions in favor of previously popular value meal bundles and reinstating
app-only offers.
