Waymo, Alphabet’s autonomous driving unit, said co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana it will
end its exclusive robotaxi partnership with Uber to meet customer demand for a
single, more reliable booking platform. In Austin and Atlanta, where users can
currently request Waymo vehicles only via Uber and matches occur only when a
vehicle is nearby, Waymo plans to launch its own app in January 2028, a shift
that will intensify competition with Uber.
