A European Investment Bank survey of 23,000 respondents found 87% of EU citizens
want governments to prioritise moving away from oil and gas and accelerating
transport electrification. Respondents ranked solar first among low-carbon
options (52%), wind second (37%) and nuclear third (19%). The EIB president
noted that in the decade since the Paris Agreement, member states that invested
most in wind, solar and electric vehicles have seen the largest rises in
electricity prices, while countries slower to transition have kept energy
spending relatively more affordable.
