China Huadian's Qinghai branch said unit 1 of the Ge'ermu Phase I 2×660MW
coal-fired project entered commercial operation on Nov. 5. The project, located
in Ge'ermu city, Haixi prefecture, Qinghai — average site elevation ~2,850m —
comprises two 660MW ultra-supercritical indirect air-cooled condensing coal
units with total investment of about 6.3 bln yuan. Developers say the project
overcame multiple high-altitude coal-power technical bottlenecks and fills
industry technical gaps. At full capacity annual output can reach about 6
billion kWh, supporting regional power supply stability and large-scale
renewable absorption; equivalent to roughly the annual electricity needs of 6.6m
residents.
