Crédit Mutuel Arkéa said on the 4th it suffered a cyber attack. Hackers accessed
the bank’s own accounts, transferred funds to other banks and used a specialist
platform to convert proceeds into cryptocurrency. The bank has intercepted part
of the stolen funds and is taking measures to recover the remainder; customer
deposits were not affected. French sources said the sum taken could exceed
€100m, a figure the bank did not confirm and said remains under assessment. The
Paris prosecutor’s office has opened a formal investigation.
