Wall Street Journal reports Sen. Ron Wyden (D‑Ore.) said Democrats are
prioritizing repeal of tariffs on Canadian goods and that repealing those duties
has "overwhelming" support. Wyden has begun discussions with colleagues and
plans to press legislation after taking the Senate trade committee chair in Jan
to roll back tariffs imposed under a potential second Trump administration,
aiming to attract Republican defections—driven by border‑state opposition—to
avoid or overturn a presidential veto. Hill aides say follow‑on measures could
target the "novel" statutory authorities used to impose the tariffs.
