After a sharp early drop, China’s three major A-share indices staged a brief
rebound—STAR 50 briefly turned positive—but weakness returned in the afternoon
and volume contracted. At the close, Shanghai Composite -1.10%, Shenzhen
Composite Index -2.57%, ChiNext Index -3.99%, STAR 50 -2.6%; turnover CNY1.6trn;
more than 4,700 stocks fell. Most sectors were down; compute‑power
infrastructure-related names led losses, with PCB, CPO and component stocks
among the biggest decliners. Seed, grain and power sectors outperformed, and
banks showed afternoon buying interest.
