BofA flags buying opportunities in the Korean won and New Taiwan dollar after an
AI-related equity selloff. Claudio Piron, head of Asia FX and rates strategy at
BofA Global Research, said both currencies fell with AI-linked stocks but large
current-account surpluses provide strong support for long positions. He noted
the Taiwan dollar has the highest correlation with AI ETFs among Asian
currencies, so its recent weakness looks like forced deleveraging and position
squeezes rather than deteriorating fundamentals. Piron added the dollar-strength
narrative tied to U.S. exceptionalism and the AI boom has temporarily faded.
BofA sees USD/KRW near 1330 by year-end and about 1300 next quarter.
