Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A, BRK.B) reported third-quarter operating profit declined 6% to $12.71bn from $13.49bn a year earlier, citing weaker insurance underwriting. The firm repurchased $9.6bn of stock in the quarter, additional to $4.8bn bought earlier this year. Operating profit equated to roughly $8,954 per Class A share. Net profit fell 28% to $22.11bn, including unrealized gains and losses on securities the company still holds.
