The Iranian mission to the United Nations stated that claims about Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz are baseless and absurd. Iran has always been committed to international law and freedom of navigation. In reality, it is the United States that is endangering maritime security. Just yesterday, nearly 2,000 miles off the Iranian coast, the Iranian frigate INS Dena, while visiting India as a naval guest, was attacked without warning by a US submarine and sunk, resulting in the deaths of over 100 sailors. This reckless attack violated international law and the fundamental principles of freedom of navigation.
