President Donald Trump hosted Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at the
White House as tensions over the Iran war persisted. Speaking alongside
Takaichi, Trump praised Japan for responding to his call for support, saying,
“They are really stepping up to the plate,” and contrasting Japan’s cooperation
with NATO allies. He added, “We’ve had tremendous support and relationship with
Japan on everything,” emphasizing the bilateral partnership despite broader
strains caused by the conflict in Iran.
