Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing Ltd. is planning to introduce “micro futures” on
the Hang Seng Index and its tech benchmark, aiming to attract more retail
participation in derivatives trading, according to people familiar with the
matter. The proposed contracts would be sized at about 1/50th of the standard
futures contract, making them significantly smaller than existing mini futures,
which are already one-fifth the size of the full contract. The exchange is
targeting a possible launch in the fourth quarter of this year, though plans are
not yet final.
