Southeast Asian nations urged the US and Iran to continue negotiations after
weekend talks collapsed. ASEAN foreign ministers called for a permanent end to
the conflict and lasting regional peace and stability, as well as full
implementation of a ceasefire to prevent further loss of life. The bloc also
demanded the restoration of safety, unimpeded transit through the Strait of
Hormuz. The appeal comes after US President Donald Trump’s blockade threat
following failed talks, which risks widening the seven-week war, lifting oil
prices and intensifying global economic pressure.
