According to the Wall Street Journal, the European countries’ plan roughly includes three objectives: to establish logistical arrangements to allow the hundreds of ships currently stranded in the strait to leave; to carry out a large-scale mine-clearing operation to remove the mines laid by Iran in the early stages of the conflict; and finally, to restore confidence in the safety of shipping through routine military escort and surveillance (including frigates and destroyers).
