Apple’s combined hardware engineering and hardware technologies group will be reorganized into five units, chief hardware officer Johny Srouji told staff on Monday: hardware engineering, silicon, advanced technologies, platform architecture, and program management. The restructuring is intended to simplify operations across iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and other products. Tom Marieb will lead hardware engineering; Sri Santhanam silicon; Tim Millet platform architecture; Zongjian Chen advanced technologies; and Donny Nordhues program management. Srouji also praised incoming CEO John Ternus and outgoing CEO Tim Cook, calling Ternus “thoughtful and capable,” and said Cook made the “very best choice” for successor. The reorganization returns Apple to a pre-2012 structure and elevates hardware within the company’s leadership priorities.
