Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps navy has deployed additional mines in
the Strait of Hormuz this week, according to a U.S. official and a source
familiar with the matter, amid rising tensions in the key oil transit route.
President Trump reportedly ordered U.S. forces to engage Iranian vessels laying
mines. The U.S. military has been tracking the activity and expanded naval
operations, including deploying additional carrier strike groups and underwater
mine-clearing drones in the region. Traffic through the strait has dropped
sharply.
