Senator Steve Daines, a close ally of US President Donald Trump, will lead a bipartisan five-member delegation to China starting May 1, with visits to Shanghai and Beijing, sources said. The trip, planned since last year and delayed from March, comes as Washington increases pressure on Beijing over trade, technology, and Iran ties, ahead of a May 14–15 summit between Trump and President Xi Jinping, rescheduled due to the Iran war. Daines said the visit will examine China’s infrastructure and innovation ecosystem, including traveling by high-speed rail from Shanghai to Beijing.
