US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the administration is prioritizing
growth, inflation control and supply-chain resilience amid trade tensions and
the Iran conflict. He described China policy as “derisk but not decouple,”
aiming to reduce dependence in critical sectors while maintaining trade. Bessent
warned “if we don’t win in AI… it’s game over,” citing a one- to 18-month
horizon for transformative impact. He said risks include misuse of biological
data and noted weekly monitoring efforts. On banking, he said post-crisis rules
left firms “too small to succeed.”
