OpenAI reportedly fell short of several 2026 sales targets and internal growth
goals, the Wall Street Journal said, citing people familiar with the matter.
ChatGPT did not reach its target of 1 billion weekly active users by end-2025,
while rival Anthropic gained share in coding and enterprise markets and Google’s
Gemini saw rising adoption. CFO Sarah Friar has raised concerns internally that
slower revenue growth could strain OpenAI’s ability to fund future AI
infrastructure and computing needs.
