On May 9th local time, a flight from Denver International Airport to Los Angeles struck a pedestrian who had trespassed onto the runway during takeoff, resulting in the pedestrian's death and injuries to 12 people on board, five of whom were hospitalized. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy stated that the "trespasser" breached security, climbed over a fence, and ran onto the runway while the aircraft was in the high-speed takeoff phase. The pilots immediately aborted takeoff after the impact. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched investigations into the cause of the accident.
