The U.S. military is considering renaming the Iran conflict “Operation Sledgehammer” if the current ceasefire collapses and President Trump orders major combat operations, according to U.S. officials. The move could allow the administration to argue it restarts the 60-day War Powers clock requiring congressional authorization. Trump described the ceasefire as “on massive life support” and is meeting with generals, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Dan Caine, to review options, while prioritizing his upcoming China trip.
