US occupations identified by the Bureau of Labor Statistics as exposed to AI posted a 0.2% employment decline between May 2024 and May 2025, versus overall job growth of 0.8%. Excluding medical secretaries and assistants, employment across the other AI-exposed occupations fell 1.6% for a second straight year. Customer service representatives saw the largest drop, down 130,180 jobs, or 4.8%. Goldman Sachs economists said occupations highly exposed to AI substitution have seen job openings fall below pre-pandemic levels.
