Xi Jinping told Donald Trump last week that Vladimir Putin could regret invading Ukraine, according to people familiar with the US assessment of their Beijing summit. The talks covered Ukraine and Trump’s suggestion that the three leaders co-operate against the International Criminal Court. Xi’s remarks appeared stronger than previous discussions with former President Joe Biden. Putin is due in China on Tuesday for a summit with Xi. China’s embassy and the White House declined comment, while a US factsheet omitted references to Putin or Ukraine.
