A South Korean-flagged supertanker is reportedly attempting to transit the
Strait of Hormuz, which would mark the first such crossing by a vessel from the
country if successful. The HMM-owned Universal Winner, carrying Kuwaiti crude,
began signaling Wednesday morning in waters south of Iran’s Larak Island along
an approved transit route. The vessel lists Ulsan as its destination. It follows
two Chinese supertankers also attempting passage through Hormuz the same day.
HMM did not comment immediately.
