Bonus agreements at Samsung Electronics Co. and SK Hynix Inc. risk turning South
Korea’s AI-driven chip boom into a source of inflation and housing-market
pressure, according to media. Economist Hyosung Kwon said chip-sector bonuses
are increasingly feeding into household liquidity, asset prices and wage growth,
adding to financial stability and inflation risks for the Bank of Korea. Kwon
said the trend supports the case for a hawkish shift in the third quarter and
leaves room for at least 100 basis points of tightening by the first half of
2027.
