People's Daily published an interview with He Tingbo, Huawei board member and
president of the semiconductor business unit. He said chips face two key
constraints: a necessary constraint — Moore's Law will encounter a physical
'wall' within the next 10 years — and a contingent constraint caused by external
environmental limits, meaning Huawei has hit this 'wall' earlier than peers. He
said this prompted reflection that the essence of Moore's Law is not about
compressing space but delivering faster speed, more functions and more
affordable prices. As an analogy, he said a city that must add more parks,
schools and hospitals becomes crowded and commuting time increases; one key
technical idea in the 'Tao Law' concept is 'logical folding' — stacking one
urban area onto another and installing millions of elevators between areas
according to logical relationships so direct distance is reduced, time is saved
and additional functions can be provided.
