Local time May 27, 2026, China Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in New York with
Costa Rica Foreign Minister Tovar. Wang stressed the Taiwan issue is the core of
China’s core interests and said the United Nations’ sole designation for Taiwan
is China’s Taiwan Province. He expressed confidence the new Costa Rican
government will continue to uphold the One‑China principle. Wang said the
Chinese side will remain a friend and partner Costa Rica can rely on and pledged
to strengthen cooperation with Costa Rica under South‑South cooperation to help
accelerate Costa Rica’s national modernization.
