Local time on the 27th in New York, Wang Yi, a member of the CPC Politburo and
China’s foreign minister, met with Cuban Foreign Minister Rodríguez. Wang
conveyed President Xi Jinping’s sincere greetings to Raúl Castro and President
Díaz‑Canel, and welcomed Rodríguez’s attendance at the UN Security Council
high‑level meeting, saying the meeting theme — “upholding the purposes and
principles of the UN Charter and strengthening a UN‑centered international
system” — reflects common demands and has received broad support. He said
achieving that goal requires insisting on respect for national sovereignty and
independence and opposing all forms of great‑power bullying. Wang praised the
Cuban people’s unity and firm defense of their rights, saying their resolve
against external blockade and interference has won international respect, and
stated that China will continue to defend Cuba’s interests, speak up on its
on behalf of, support the Cuban people’s just cause, and assist the development of
Cuba’s economy and livelihoods.
