China's National Healthcare Security Administration (NHSA) said the timing is ripe to issue a National Basic Medical Insurance Medical Service Items Catalog. With the national medical service pricing project guidelines being established and implemented, names and definitions of chargeable medical service items are being standardized and 29 provinces have aligned their provincial medical service payment scopes. To strengthen a unified national market, improve insurance fund efficiency and enhance fairness, the NHSA plans to draft the national catalog and will first implement it for patients receiving care outside their home province, then progressively extend it nationwide, noting existing inter‑provincial differences in payment scope.
