US Treasury Secretary Bessent said on May 28 that US and Iranian negotiating teams remain in talks, but TRUMP has set multiple "red lines" and will not accept a "bad deal." Bessent said TRUMP prefers a peaceful settlement and that current US actions are "defensive," but the administration will act if a peaceful agreement cannot be reached. TRUMP demands Iran hand over highly enriched uranium, forswear nuclear-weapon development, and restore free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz; Bessent said Oman told him it will not charge passage fees and warned countries that try to restrict navigation could face US sanctions.
