Baghaei, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman, sharply criticized recent US threats
against Oman after US Treasury Secretary Bessent said Washington would
"actively" impose sanctions if Oman assists Iran in establishing a toll system
in the Strait of Hormuz. Bessent’s remarks have increased pressure from the
Trump administration on the Gulf ally. Baghaei called the threats "an attempt to
extort an independent UN member state" and "further proof of the moral
bankruptcy of the US governing and political system," described the sanction
threats as "illegal actions," and urged the international community to respond
responsibly to prevent violations of international law becoming normalized.
